William E. Lasche

January 11, 1953 - October 24, 2019
Born in New York, NY
Resided in Chicago, IL

William ‘Bill’ Lasche, 66, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on October 24, 2019, following complications of a stroke.
Bill was a consummate gentleman and a gentle man, just like his late beloved father. He possessed a deep faith. Bill loved God, his family and his friends. He shared 18 wonderful years with his partner, the late Robert S. Mayo.
Bill, revered his parents. He was a devoted son, brother and uncle. He was so incredibly proud of his nieces, Catherine, Elizabeth and Alexandra. He loved them dearly.
Bill was a truly gifted interior designer. He made his clients houses, homes, and his clients became his friends.
Bill had a passion for cars and was a member of the Lambda Car Club. He was a tireless volunteer and Board member for Heartland Alliance (formally Vital bridges/ Open Hand). Although Bill left his family and friends too soon, he will be remembered for giving more than a lifetime worth of smiles and laughter to those around him.
The true essence of our Billy cannot be captured in just a few sentences. It can only be said, “To know him was to love him.”
Celebrating his life are his mother, Patricia Collins Lasche; his sister, Maryann Weiner and her husband, Robert; his nieces, Catherine, Elizabeth and Alexandra Weiner; his nephew, Nathan Ross; his aunt, Rita Lasche; his cousins Barbara (Tom) Ferraioli, James (Erin) Lasche, Bruce (Brenda) Lasche; Scott (Wendy) Cameron and many close friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his beloved partner of 18 years, Robert S. Mayo who passed away on January 8, 2009 and his beloved father, Edwin M. Lasche who passed away on August 23, 2018.
The family would like to thank the staff of Northwestern Memorial Hospital, The Shirley Ryan Ability Lab, most especially Dr. Deena Hassaballa and Billy‘s caregivers, Alex, Ram and Arman, for their expertise and kind, compassionate care of Bill and his family.

Prion Alliance is a 501(c)(3) non-profit devoted exclusively to advancing scientific research towards a treatment or cure for human prion disease. Prion diseases are fatal neurodegenerative diseases caused by misfolded proteins and known by various names, such as Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, fatal familial insomnia, and Gertsmann-Sträussler-Scheinker disease. At present, there is no treatment or cure. We — Sonia Vallabh and Eric Minikel — founded Prion Alliance as part of our scientific quest after we learned in 2011 that Sonia inherited a genetic mutation that causes prion disease. We recently defended our PhDs at Harvard Medical School, and now run a prion laboratory at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, where we work on developing therapeutics for human prion disease.
