Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Flynn of Elmhurst passed away on January 14, 2021, surrounded by her loving family after a brave battle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Beloved wife, of Leo Flynn for a wonderful 27 years. Loving mother of Leo, Emily, Meghan, and Maria. Youngest sister of Josette (Jeff) Abrams, David, and Jon. Loving aunt of 10 nieces and nephews. Loving friend of many. Mary was preceded in death by her loving parents, Gerald and Helen “Boots” Borchers.

Mary grew up in South Bend, Indiana, attending St Joseph High School and Graduating from St. Mary’s College (IN). After college she embarked on a successful career at Dun & Bradstreet working at various offices in the Midwest before landing at their Chicago office. In the early 90s she met the love of her life, Leo, at a July 3rd party in Lincoln Park through mutual friends. They married in April 1993 and started their family. Her passion was her children, actively involved with all facets of their lives. In return, she was our family’s rock. She was a phenomenal cook and a wonderful host, notably hosting family and friends for Turkey Trot parties in the morning and family for Thanksgiving dinner in the evening for years on Thanksgiving day. In addition, she hosted countless grade school parties and graduation parties in our backyard. Mary was active at Visitation parish volunteering at SPRED and Casserole ministry. Mary was blessed with the gift of kindness, positivity and an incredible ability to connect with people. She made everyone feel so loved and special. Mary was also noted animal lover. Although Mary’s life was abruptly cut short, she met, laughed, danced, comforted, and handed out candy then most do in many lifetimes. We have all been blessed to call her wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend, and Mary will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
