Lloyd J. Buff, age 95, passed away peacefully at Belmont Village Senior Living of Carol Stream, Illinois on Friday, February 7, 2020, where he resided for five years. He was a long-term resident of Asheboro, North Carolina.

Born on April 30, 1924 in Danville, Virginia, the son of the late Vance A. and Virginia G. Buff. He was a Veteran of World War II. Enlisted and served as a radio operator in the Air Force on B-24 bombers, engaging in fifty combat missions in the Mediterranean. He was very proud of his military service and remained interested in WWII artifacts.

He spent the majority of his working years as a revenue officer for the States of Florida and North Carolina, retiring in 1991. He admitted that a “tax man is not the most popular fellow in town,” but the career was rewarding.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne Buff, parents, and siblings, Esmon, Vance, Leon, Mildred, Dovie, and Ruby.

Survived by his son, Mylan and daughter-in-law Deborah Buff of Carol Stream, sister Yvonne Chandler of Durham, North Carolina and Edith Clayton of Burlington, North Carolina.

A memorial will be planned at Bethel United Methodist Church of Snow Camp, N.C., date to be determined.
