Obituary

Eleanor “Ellie” M. Lowe, nee Pohl, 93, of Warrenville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 9, surrounded by her family and after watching her Cubbies beat the Cardinals.

Eleanor dedicated her life to caring for others, leaving a legacy of unconditional love to live on her in her two sons, Donald (Linda) and David (Pamela), nine grandchildren, Patti (Leo) Van Cleve, Peggi Vivian, Sarah (late Scott) Lange, Ryan (Krissy), Vicki (Matt) Mulacek, Kathleen, William, Jennifer, and Jackie (Andy) Pufundt, as well as many great and great great grandchildren. Ellie’s sister and partner in crime, Lizzy, also survives as well as many nieces and nephews and her adored dog, Riley.

Eleanor danced through the pearly gates to be greeted by her son, Michael, and two great grandchildren, Deidra and Jeff Lange. She was also lovingly welcomed to Heaven by her parents, George, Sr. and Mary Pohl, siblings, Walter, Ralph Theis, Harold, George Pohl, Jr., Catherine Grommes, Loretta Dumdie and Mary Hankes.

Eleanor spent 45 years as a nurse’s aide at both The Abby in Winfield and Community Convalescent Center in Naperville. She loved her work, stubbornly refusing to retire until she was nearly 80 years old. Eleanor carried her nursing skills into her time at West Suburban Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, helping care for other residents and becoming well known through the center during the nine years she lived there.

Eleanor will be remembered for her feistiness, her sense of humor, her love of Kmart and, simply put, being the very best mom and grandma. While her physical presence on earth may have ended, her heart and love will certainly be felt for generations to come.

A special thank you to the teams at West Suburban Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Heritage Hospice for loving our Ellie with us.

In lieu of flowers, please grab a cup of McDonald’s coffee and pray this is the year Eleanor’s beloved Chicago Bears win the Superbowl and her Cubs win the World Series again. Wouldn’t that be something?

A celebration of Ellie’s life will be held on Sunday, June 23 from 2 - 4 p.m. with a memorial service at 3:30 p.m. at DuPage Memorial Chapel in West Chicago. To honor her festive spirit, Hawaiian and flamingo attire is encouraged.
