October 7, 1923 - February 25, 2019
Born in Easton, PA
Resided in Carol Stream, Illinois

Charlotte Gordon Gilbert, 95, released her ceaseless efforts to make Earth a kinder and more “fun” place, and moved on to a more restful abode on Monday, February 25. She passed, as she had lived, surrounded by people she had touched with love.

Previously a resident of Charleston, SC, and other fortunate points east, Charlotte spent her last years in Carol Stream, IL , where she could be closer to three of her five children and serve as an unwavering point of unity for her large family of kids, grandkids and great-grandkids, both near and far.

Her children, Philip T. Gilbert (wife Judy), Stephen S. Gilbert (wife Monika), Michael L. Gilbert (wife Carol), Deborah J. Riha (husband John), and Charlotte G. Skrzypczak (husband Alfred) made her the doting grandmother of 12 grandchildren and great-grandmother of 13. Each and every one of them gained an irrepressible sense of positivity from this remarkable lady, who, in addition to keeping a home for her (necessarily) hard-working husband, had worked outside their busy home as an executive secretary for some years, even while keeping the five offspring On the Rails.

Charlotte had a beautiful singing voice and loved music and dancing. When stationary, she enjoyed playing bridge and word games like Scrabble and Words with Friends (at which she provided a formidable opponent even for the grandchildren : -), doing crossword puzzles, discussing current events, watching Dancing with the Stars, and admiring certain “soooo handsome” public figures such as former VP Joe Biden. And she always appreciated a nice glass of cream sherry! She was simply that rarity, an irrepressible optimist, that , so that even in hospice and undoubtedly in pain, she relished being surrounded by loved ones and managed to smile and to say once again,” Oh, I like to have fun !”

The many of us who loved her are comforted that our loss will surely be the gain of that new population in the (“undoubtedly lovely”) realm where she is currently spreading Positivity.

A memorial service will be held at Windsor Park Manor on Saturday, March 2, 2019, at 12:00 noon.
