Obituary

Al transitioned from this life on Friday, January 25, 2019 with his loving family by his side at his home in Woodstock, IL.

Al was born in Jackson, MS to Mary and William Henry Stewart. He was raised in Chicago, IL where he attended school and later in life met and married Betty Stewart. They were a couple for more than 47 years. He was the oldest of three children. He had one sister Thelma (Paulette) Stewart and one brother Douglas Stewart. He shared a special bond with his mother Mary Stewart. He treasured his kids, Clifford Stewart; Francine Phillip-Pierce; Edgar Phillip, Jr; Michael Phillip; Tonya Burrell, and Darlene Wallace.

Al’s most favorite things to do in the world was to go bowling, traveling, and hanging out with the family.

Another joy of his was to play bid whist. Oh, how he loved to do that! That was his biggest thing to do when company would come by. He showed such excitement while playing. He had won many games and lost a few. However, he did take his losses just as well as his winnings. He was very competitive while playing cards and challenged all that were in his company. You could say that he was a surgeon at that game.

He had a big heart and always wanted the family to stay together and get along. He was loved and will be truly missed by all.

Preceded in death was his father William Henry Stewart. Al is survived by his loving wife Betty Stewart of Woodstock, IL; mother Mary Stewart of Riverdale, IL; sister Thelma Stewart of Riverdale, IL; brother Douglas Stewart (Agnes) of Chicago, IL; son, Clifford Stewart of Milwaukee, WI; daughter, Francine Phillip-Pierce (Gary) of Dale City, VA; son, Edgar Phillip, Jr. of Rockford, IL; son, Michael Phillip of Detroit, MI; daughter, Tonya Burrell of Harvard, IL; daughter, Darlene Wallace of Forest, MS; sister-in law Florish Duggar (Andrew); sister-in-law Jewell Gordon; brother-in-law Joseph Bowman; nieces; nephews; many grandkids; great-grandkids; other relatives; longtime friend Evelyn Harris who was like a sister; and others who all loved him deeply.
