Our Cremation Process
DuPage Cremations’ first priority is to provide a dignified cremation for your loved one. It is our goal to treat your family member the way we would expect our own family members to be treated. We operate our own on-site cremation facility in West Chicago, so your loved one never leaves our care. Our facility is state of the art in every aspect; the most up to date cremation equipment, 24 hour monitored security cameras, burglar alarm and fire alarm. Our entire staff has completed a State of Illinois Crematory Operator Certification.
A common question asked by many families is “Will my family member be cremated alone?” The answer to this question is an emphatic “YES!” Not only would it be disrespectful, unethical and is HIGHLY illegal, but it goes against every principle that DuPage Cremations, Ltd. and Memorial Chapel is based on. We have made a large monetary investment to operate our own crematory facility to assure that our high standards are followed. Your loved one will never leave our care throughout the entire cremation process.
DuPage Cremations, Ltd and Memorial Chapel will always maintain an open door policy where people are welcome to have a private tour of our cremation facility.
Immediately when your loved one is brought into our care, their name is permanently logged into our system and assigned a unique registration number which is engraved on a stainless steel disc and kept with them for the entirety of being in our care. The number on this disc is never repeated to ensure a unique identification. An identification wristband with your loved one’s name and registration number is then placed on their wrist before your loved one is placed in the State of Illinois required cremation casket, which is often referred to as an alternative fiberboard cremation container. Your loved one is then placed in the climate controlled area of our facility.
A final viewing in our chapel at no cost is made available to our families to provide closure and reassurance that their loved one is in our care.
Just prior to the start of the cremation process all authorizations, permits and instructions are carefully reviewed by the technician. The date, start and finish time is permanently logged in our system and the paperwork is attached to the outside of the cremation chamber.
After a cooling period your loved one’s cremated remains are carefully removed from the cremation chamber and processed into the powder form which is then placed into the family’s urn of choice. The identification disc is placed in the urn for positive identification when a label with your loved one’s name, date of cremation and identification disc number is permanently affixed to the bottom of the urn.
Our staff is available to answer any questions and provide immediate service 24 hours a day.
